Hospital visits

This is a rather abrupt departure from my normal routines...a hospital stay. Not mine, at least.
I was confronted with Ron's 'big foot' on Thursday evening. It was a rather shocking sight, and I wish I had pictures to show you but I fear I'd just gross you out. Despite the swollen and red foot, It actually took quite a bit to convince my dear sweet husband that we should head to the ER. It was past 8 in the evening before I was able to get him up there. His biggest objection was that he had an appointment with his regular doctor in the morning and "did I know how much it cost to go in to the emergency room?" well, I didn't, of course, but believe it or not that's not what I was thinking about. Plus I had a consult with my own private medical consultant: Mom. (former nurse)
After a very long evening Ron was admitted to the hospital. It took another hour to actually get a bed. And that, my friends, has been what I've been juggling with the past couple of days. Hospital. Work.Dog.house.schedule.hospital again. It's very draining!
The doctor has said, re:this morning's visit, that they will work to get him home sometime today. Hurrah! Though he'll have to come back to the ER for some doses of IV antibiotics. His foot is responding nicely. Works for me.

Spring--Around the neighborhood

So Buster and I have been taking at least two walks a day in this really nice weather that we've been having. Buster looks forward to them so much that he gives very strong signals when it's time to go for another walk. We don't go all that far. The walk takes us about 15 minutes and we go the same way every morning and evening. But here's spring in my corner...

  • 2 houses for sale along the way.
  • 2 other Bostons live within a block.
  • Robin families having discussions about where to build this year.
  • No buds, no leaves all still brown and muddy
  • No snow anywhere either.
  • 1 impromptu street football game being played by a dozen neighborhood boys. (goodness where do they all live?)
  • 1 white stray cat creeping about the yard1 pair cardinals
  • One very large unfinished backyard building. It's been in the unfinished state for quite some time. Hope they get it done soon.

Not too Far from Normal

It's pretty bad when the most you have to talk about in your day is what you did at work. And no, I promise not to. Nothing funny, or weird or even remotely outrageous happened today. I would classify it as pretty normal. Which sets me off in a direction.. heading down the road to look at "normal" Just a little meander by to see if you see the same things I do.

The get up out of bed, exercise, eat breakfast, shower routine occurs without explosions or poison or tripping over things.

The drive to work...well, it looked just like it did yesterday only the road is clear and dry so no sliding, flat tires or even eagles flying overhead.. (they are putting up new huge advertising signs close to LeMars, though)

No bills in the mail. no one sick today. We get a community service worker in who has to complete 60 hours of work. I have about 200 for him depending on how fast he wants to go. Books, blogs, email, report, lunch, tedious computer, and the book "good in a room". I can't tell how fast the day is going because I can't see the sun. I miss that. But check it off, work was normal.

Home by 5:30. I fix supper tonight. (now last night was NOT normal in that regard. I got sick-there was some hidden milk that did me in) Watch survivor, read.

So, see what I mean? I hunted all over for something interesting to tell you about and all I could come up with was normal. I don't want to move far from that spot, however. I've seen those NonNormal days and they can be pretty scary. So stick with me. We'll get through normal together.

Loving DaDa

Well, Jeremiah is a daddy's boy. After daddy he really appreciated his grandpa. While he would let me hold him and play with him, if either grandpa or Jon would walk into the room he glommed on to them so fast it was almost funny. He loved sitting on grandpa. He loved playing with hi dad. Me, ah, not so much, though he was tolerant of me.
Actually, he is also somewhat of a gadget boy. He loves rulers, cell phones, things in pockets and purses, wires, cords, pots and pans and getting to places that have been placed off limits. "Can I climb that chair? Well, if no one is paying attention and there's something interesting up there, then yes. Can I open that door?" Not usually. For the most part right now he's too short, but I can see that as a problem later on. And he's not afraid to head into a previously unopened space! like a bedroom or bathroom. The house is pretty well Jeremiah-proofed, but when we arrived he pounced at all the new things to be reached...my bible, my purse, my camera... He keeps his parents going! Watch out world, here comes Jeremiah!

Escape to the South

I think it's a great idea to head to warmer weather sometime during these icky late winter days. After all, warm for me is a great thing! So this weekend, that's what we've done.... head south. We're in Lincoln for the weekend. And I'm sure it's warmer here than it is at home. Why right now it must be at least, well, 32 degrees! It's not snowing here anyway, which is what I here will be happening at home overnight. Ugh.

Anyway, it's been Christmas since we've seen our little munchkin. We needed a grandson fix. And he is amazing! I will tell you all the remarkable things about this boy: He loves books (I've read chicka chicka Boom Boom and more..He is quite fussy about his books) He's working on lots of new words, though I still need an interpreter. I know what Maggie is, bible, daddy, mama, grandpa, grandma, honey, and a new word for today-Zebra! See! Amazing! He signs too, to supplement his words, so he communicates quite well for his age. He loves rulers and cords and cell phones and computers and climbing and being chased. Go go go. Makes me tired! Still, It's a great way to spend a weekend.

Buster Routines

Buster has this routine that, of late, indicates that I need to get out and walk him some more.

He gets Ron up at least once in the night. It's still cold enough that he isn't out too long, but it does interrupt an otherwise peaceful night's sleep. And last night he woke Ron up pushing his water dish around in the kitchen. He was out of water. So Ron had to fill that too.

In the morning he comes and snuggles with me while I read on the couch. He's pretty good while he waits for Ron to finish his morning routine. But when I get home from exercising I'd better be sure to FEED him. He gets two bone treats. Then he hardly has any patience while I get dressed. He likes me to be in the kitchen with him when he finishes breakfast. After all, I still have to give him his cheese treat. Boy this spoiling thing is coming back to bite me, I guess.

Ron leaves for work. I leave for work. Buster gets to spend most of the day in the kitchen or the basement.

After work, after supper Buster is ready to play. He needs exercise and stimulation. All that is left of the ball that we use to play with him with is not a a ball anymore at all. It's 3 rings stuck together, but still tossable. He will run after it until he collapses in a heap on the carpet. That usually gets him through the rest of the evening without being too much of a pest!

But boy, he's looking forward to spring as much as the rest of us are! He needs some walks in the evening...and in the morning....and to help Ron out with the new garage.

Hwy 60

It was raining and icing as I went to work this morning. I haven't had such a horrible driving winter. Just bad enough to make me cautious. I could see from the K64 hill that traffic was not moving very fast. But in comparison to the blacktop, I could fly along. A normal trip would be 20 minutes. Today it took 30 minutes.
The pine tree is a great landmark. The Sioux/Plymouth County line. Railroad parallels the hwy. Fields and more fields. Around the curve and past the Seeny Cemetery. It's an easy drive.
