Getting ready for another Season

The weather has been decidedly fall like the past few days. So, I've been looking around me at all the signs. It's time to pay attention! Time to put the storm windows back on. Get the tulip bulbs in the ground. Enjoy the last fleeting songs of the summer birds. Watch the morning Star (actually Venus and Saturn together brilliantly) There was a dash of frost on rooftops this morning, though we haven't acutally turned on our furnace. That will be only too soon. (remember my moaning about this expensive addition to our house that I will be only too glad to have in days to come.) Indian Summer days are coming. If we get some good cold weather the trees might actually be prettier so I guess I don't mind that at all! Above are some shots of late summer: Dahlias and crabapples.

Those grandkids!

We spent the past two days (well really, Ron spent the past 2 days, I only had 1 day) with the two grandsons from SD. Are they ever busy! They love to eat, make noise, play in the park, jump, run, bang the remote, the phone and throw. I barely kept up. And then only because I got a short nap in on Wed. afternoon. I guess I shouldn't feel too bad since that was only the day after my surgery and I guess I have a good reason to feel exhausted. But let me tell you how great they are:

  1. Isaiah says please and thank you

  2. They take scheduled naps promptly and as advertised!

  3. Isaiah is potty trained

  4. Phin loves Buster (Isaiah will, too, eventually)

  5. They weren't homesick at all!

I think it can only improve from here. Ron was pretty great with them, too, as he did all the inhaler, nebulizer, medicine, diaper, feeding, etc. What a guy!

Surgery...Again

It was just a year ago I had surgery on my neck. this year I'm doing something much less complicated. Carpal Tunnel surgery. I can't believe I keep doing these things. It makes me nervous to know the way around the hospital, and to even have a feel for the 'stuff' in the surgery room itself. Oh well, hopefully it will be worth it in the end. So that was yesterday. We're off now for grand kids!

"old" Friends

I can't think of anything more fun than getting together with friends that you've known (and who know you), well, just forever! It's with these kind of friends that it seems like there are no months or years between the last time that you saw them. You can just pick up the threads of your conversation right from where you left off! You know them so well you can still 'get their goat' or serve them their favorite foods. It's being as comfortable as being at home. I have heard it said that in a lifetime most people only have one or two such friendships. I have been blessed to have had at least 4 or 5! The one thing I always hate about the get togethers with close friends is that the time flies so fast and suddenly it's leave taking time. Good byes are the worst and I hate them. I really look forward to the day when there are no more good-byes.

Surprises

Our birthday party is over! I don't know why I don't have more fun with stuff like this. I get all tensed up when it's my turn to play hostess with the mostess! But it was so fun to visit with friends and to share our house, and to celebrate Ron! I was right, he didn't read my blog so figure out about the party that way, But he wasn't surprised. I knew he wouldn't be when he decided he wanted to start on his roofing project. I had to (picture this please) put my hands on my hips and just say "no siree. you're not doing any such thing this weekend." I'm a terrible liar and to his question as to why I would throw such a fit over that, I could only say, well, because...I said so! Oh that's so bad. Thanks everyone for helping and sharing.

Ron actually turns 60 on September 17 so you still have time to wish him a Happy Birthday!
