Still winter

Wow! A whole day spent just reading, writing, sleeping. I have nothing to complain about. I am reading "The Children's Blizzard" by Laskin. Very appropriate for this particular time of year. I surely have nothing to complain about. On the prairies at the end of the 19th century there was nothing to stop a blizzard and nothing did. It seems every year they had vicious blizzards that killed livestock and left people weakened and starving. A quote from the book that struck me was " God punished the Egyptians with ten plagues but He punished the settlers of the plain states with just three: fire, weather and grasshoppers." The weather on the Dakotas and in Nebraska was more violent than any these immigrants had known in Europe. It's amazing anyone stayed to settle the area at all! So, Like I said. I had not much to complain about except being inconvenienced. (Heaven help inconveniences in this day and age) Tomorrow we'll be back to normal, i expect. We probably won't have long to wait before the snow goes. We'll be sighting robins soon.

We plan...

Well, praise the Lord for blizzards, drought, grasshoppers and whatever else He chooses to send our way!! If I enjoy the beauty of this community in the spring, then I should surely give thanks for this amazing weather now...a Blizzard! It has meant that we cancel our travel plans. Buster will be glad. It has meant we will struggle to figure out another meeting time and place, and I am sorely disappointed. But like I said yesterday: I've driven in blizzards before and I know exactly what kind of adventure that is. So. Nevermind. I have a stack of good books. I don't have to worry about work or driving tomorrow. So I will enjoy what God has sent.

"If it's all about you, then it's all up to you. Your Father rescues you from such a burden. While you are valuable, you aren't essential. You're important, but not indispensable." Good news indeed. I have to shout :His love is "too wonderful to be measured." Eph 3:19

Time for the Winter Camping Reunion!

Here we go again! This should have been our weather in December. We have big plans for the weekend and part of that does not include driving in a blizzard. The last horrible blizzard drive I did was a Christmas eve in the 80's when the kids were little. It was dark. We were driving south in the northbound lane praying that no semi was out on this road that had been CLOSED! When we got to our destination (only 6 miles) I always said that God sends his angels to watch over fools and little children and there were both in the car that night. I won't purposely ever do that again!! So, hopefully it will be done by Friday...our leaving day. We'll be doing a reunion with our camping buddies in the warm comfort of a motel room in the cities... complete with swimming, eating and plenty of laughs!

Slippery underfoot

I walked to and from work yesterday. I walked the dog this morning. The walk is quite the adventure! In some places it's dry and safe to walk. Some spots are total snow covered and you can pretty well plan that you will have a sure foot underneath, but then there are the clear danger places. There are the spots that are total ice covered. The problem is, everything is mixed up. For a moment it will be clear and dry and then icy. I slipped and caught myself numerous times. I am living dangerously! Ha! (as dangerous as I want to get) Isn't life a mixed bag like the icy streets? Tread carefully. Keep watch. Guard your hearts.
