Aprils gone by

I've kept a journal for many years. So in lots of ways, blogging is just another way of journalling for me. But I thought it might be fun to look back at this date in some of my past journals to see what I was doing. Here is a look at 1993. I was still teaching. It was a cold April, not unlike now. Easter was around the 12-19 of April that year. I complained about cold windy, snowy weather, and in addition I was in the middle of dealing with students. Here's an interesting journal entry:
"Stephen came up to me this morning and asked if he could go out and get into his bag. I don't know why that struck me a hilarious, but I was sent off into gales of laughter! I told him I'd love to see that, and asked if he thought he would fit. He just gave me a goofy grin and then tried asking again."
1993 was my last year of teaching. We moved from Aurelia that year to Monona. Ron accepted the job over there on April 7th. It was less than 4 months that we had been in our brand new house. April 15th new teaching contracts were distributed and it hit me hard that I would be resigining. Funny the places life takes us. Directions I would never have predicted. We moved in June. I started at the library in McGregor in August and haven't looked back. Getting to OC though, that's quite the tale!

Spring Memo`

Last year's April (Really)

I think someone forgot to send out the memo that Spring has arrived. Who wants to talk about the weather on a blog? it's just depressing. It would be more fun if I told you I was involved in throughly cleaning my house. But that would be lie as I'm sitting down here moaning about the state of the weather...of which I can do nothing.

So let's take it from some very young friends of ours in our small group: Instead of whining, think of something to be thankful for about the circumstances you find yourself in. Whining is a form of not trusting God anyway. So. Hmmmmm....... the obvious thankful response is that The rain and the snow will green things up. Flowers will bloom. I will appreciate sunshine and warmth so much more.

Meet the candidate

Well, Look who I saw at PLA last week! In all the excitement I forgot about this little tidbit until someone sent me the picture. I could have had my picture taken with Hillary or Barak but I decided to join with the very few librarians who would be seen with John. In fact it was like 8 to 1 in favor of the other two candidates with Barak being the overwhelming favorite. I don't know why it is, but librarians are NOT Republicans. Oh Well. John here, however, didn't have a lot of politics to talk with me. In fact he didn't have much to say at all. And sad to say, I really don't know his views on libraries in general. He does look rather dashing, though, doesn't he!

Always winter and never Christmas??? I mean Spring.

Hey, now look at this! This IS this year's crocus. Finally. Dafodills should be out in a few days too. Though snow is back in the forecast. (sigh) The eternal winter may not be.

Night Out

So yesterday I got to skip my traditional Sunday night activity and headed with a friend to Sioux Falls! We went to the Point of Grace concert. It was at the Washington Pavillion and I think we must have bought the last tickets. I know there were 2 seats empty in front of us, but otherwise it was a full house! What was great about the Pavillion was there didn't seem to be a bad seat in the house. We enjoyed 2 1/2 hours of wonderful music. There is nothing like hearing it live that stuff you've been listening to on your IPOD or radio for the past months. Wow!

And to cap it all off we enjoyed supper with Nate and Kristin and the boys. They are just as funny in person as on their blog!
