Tuesday, May 29, 2007Wednesday, May 23, 2007the case of the missing fingers![]() Notice the short post yesterday? Maybe not, but i did a 'time waster' because I couldn't use my fingers all afternoon...and some into the evening. Someone suggested that the lack of feeling and ablility to make my hands do what I wanted must feel similar to stroke victims who also struggle with use of their hands. This all stemmed from a steroid shot I had in my wrist that afternoon. That all by itself was almost worth the wait. (please note sarcasm) The numbing medicine made my hands disappear completely! Well, there was a huge burning sensation, they were bright red but they surely didn't work! I'm pretty sure that was the same as not being there! Try typing with one hand. Try buttoning or unbuttoning your pants. Holding onto things was a challenge. But as you can see, I'm back to typing again. The steroid hasn't "kicked in" yet but I could give it up to two weeks. Hey, and we're camping this weekend, so I promise some fun pictures when we get back. (just what you wanted, right?!) "camping: the art of getting closer to nature while getting away from the nearest cold beverage, hot shower and flush toilet." Tuesday, May 22, 2007what kind of sandwich are you?
This doesn't seem to quite fit with my flower, but here I am as a sandwich!

Monday, May 21, 2007One more Tulip Festival blog![]() ![]() ![]() Hey, can I get away with posting a few more fun pictures from the tulip festival? I took over 200 pictures and some of them are actually kind of cool. I filled up a whole CD when I copied them. The last thing that we enjoy about the festival that the regular guys miss is the community worship service on Sunday. The 12 churches in town gather together in Windmill park and worship together. Every year one of the pastors from a local church preaches, and one or two of the churches 'host' the event. By that, they provide the music and any special. This year the pastor of the Baptist church preached and it was wonderful! He took his message from Luke 18 and preached about the Pharisee and the tax collector. You remember the story...The Pharisee stood up in the temple and thanked God that he wasn't like everyone else, a sinner. Especially he wasn't like the tax collector. While the tax collector beat his breast and confessed his sin before God. The pastor's message was very appropriate for a community like ours. How Pharisee like we have been perceived. Justly so, I'm afraid. His message was very pointed, yet diplomatic. Something I cannot neglect to take to hearT Saturday, May 19, 2007Walk in the Tulips![]() ![]() Well, ok, it was officially the "Tulip Walk". We had a perfect morning for a 5K walk. I have actually run in it before but have given that up. I probably couldn't have run it any faster than I walked it anyway. It was pretty high tech this year. all the runners got chips to record their time and you could view their times in 'real time'! I saw that the winner did the 5K in just over 16 minutes. Pretty fast. But as you can see by my finishing time I wasn't quite that speedy. Last year I did a bit better because I had two real speedy walkers egging me on. That time was just a minute faster. Oh well, it was lovely still. What could be better than being outside on a cool sunny morning walking with a friend? Nothing!! Although there were no tulips to speak of, we had plenty of irises, singing birds and hard panting runners all around us. Great stuff. Then to top off the morning we enjoyed an almond roca latte. So tulip festival is done for another year and ahead stretches the whole summer.
Thursday, May 17, 2007Company in town![]() ![]() ![]() Well the town is all spruced up for company. The new windmills are spinning in the park, sod laid, flowers planted. The tulips aren't in such good shape, but it matters not! Visitors are still here by the gazillions. (just witness the parking nightmare on our street) The straatmarket is lined with food stands and game places. There are even a couple of new foodstuffs to try. (cheesecake on a stick?!) I got my need for a funnelcake out of the way tonight. Thank goodness. It wasn't as good as I thought it should be. The local kids had their ride night on Wednesday and now look like they've been doing this festival all of their lives! I don't feel quite like the tourist that I did a couple of years ago, but still, I took tons of pictures, sat in the sun and enjoyed the parade two times. (4 more to go). This is like the beginning of the summer season, and it's all laid out in front of us!
