Mopping the floor
I received some very nice Christmas presents. Today I am going to use my brand spanking new Kitchen Aid mixer. I had some mixed feelings about that one. I'm not cooking and baking as much as I used to. If I bake something I usually end up eating it. That's what got me into the shape I'm in right now. And the other lovely present I got was a steamer mop for my kitchen and vinyl floors. OOOOoooo is it ever nice! Water in, plug it in and mop away. My floors are cleaner than they have been and it isn't back breaking! I like it a lot. In fact, so much so I've actually mopped in the basement! (I don't think i should be admitting that one.) Who would have believed that a mop could bring so much pleasure!! I think it's because I don't have too hard to get nice results. But then I'm easy to please.

subtle things
what signs do you notice:
of someone that isn't listening to you?
That you just made some sort of verbal blunder?
That you're being ignored
that you've worn out your welcome
that sickness is on its way
that you're being lied to
When does it hit you that maybe you missed something big but you can't quite put your finger on it. How long does it take to become sensitive to the nuances of co workers or friends.. Maybe that depends on how well one pays attention. And here's the other thing, my face, body language is an open book to anyone who's even vaguely looking. I would be a very poor poker player. Am I mad? Anyone with half an eye could pick that up. Am I worried? That's an easy one. Sad? My eyes are a dead give away. I might as well be shouting. No subtlty about me at all even if I won't speak it.
So, what do you go with? The non verbal cues, Thebody language, or some other more obvious sign..tones of voice, eye movements, subtle comments? Need to learn more about body languge? Well, just get to know me. I'm an easy read.

Speaking Engagement
I had a fun experience today. Well, an experience anyway. I got my first speaking gig as the Library director in Le Mars. I tooted the Library's horn. Hopefully I even made sense. What do you think? Any chance grown ups like spoonerisms? I read "Loldiglocks and the Bree tears" to a roomful of adults. Good thing it only lasted a couple of minutes. I talked about the library as being a place of conversation...a conversation about politics and religion. History and memories.Romance and exploration. Then I told them we needed money!! Ha. Not really. We just went through what we'll be doing for Summer Reading, our Winter reading program with adults,Book club and our new automation system. A NEW AUTOMATION SYSTEM!! Woo HOO! (now that makes me nervous. What was I thinking?)
Oh. And I have another of these speaking gigs coming up in a couple weeks.

Adventures in Driving
We took Amy to the airport this morning. We had a touch of extra time so we hit the mall for an hour or so before she needed to catch that flight out. We were in for a bit of a shock when we walked out the door. The street that had been wet when we went in was now a solid sheet of ice. We could barely walk to the car. The drive to the airport, which on dry streets might have taken all of 15 minutes now took us about 45. We were cutting it pretty close. There were dozens of cars in the ditch and knocked about on the side of the road. We couldn't drive fast. We needed to drive fast. We slid through a stop light-good thing nothing was in front of us! When she got to the airport the plane was "boarding". And she needed to get through security yet. 20 minutes to spare. The only thing left to do was to send up a prayer that she would really make the flight. I wonder, does God answer prayers when we've created our own foolishness? We should have left earlier. We really didn't deserve a 'good' outcome. But He is so full of love for us, and so faithful to us that I think He really would provide a way for Amy to make the flight! I don't want to test Him again, though....

Christmas Daughter

The time has come again when we take Amy back to the airport. Goodness it seems like we say goodbye a lot. I know I've said it more than once, "It seems like you just got here." But she's been here since mid December. I can get used to having her here. We saw her in July. Now December. Almost as bad as when she was in Korea. But she'll be done with school in one more semester. That time has really flown by too. (probably only for me. She probably feels every second of it!) Then where she'll head off to we will leave in the Lord's hands. But here she is having a great Christmas time with family. Love you lots Amy.

Round 3
skinny dip skin test
get the skinny skin flick
a skinny latte skin deep
skinny bones skinflint
thin
Definition:
Having little flesh or fat on the body.
Synonyms:
angular, bony, fleshless, gaunt, lank, lanky, lean, meager, rawboned, scrawny, slender, slim, spare, twiggy, weedy
Can you tell what I'm thinking about? No, it's not a guessing game. It's a lament I guess. Wasn't it two years ago I was wanting to lose weight? Oh wait. It was two years ago. And it was last year. And now, third year in a row it's still me wanting to lose weight. Only now it's 3 times more than what it was 3 years ago. This is pathetic. I do ok once I get over a certain 'hump' in the whole process. But that takes weeks. I shouldn't do this at the same time every year, I'm in a rut I guess. Onward to skinny or maybe I should just go with slim.
